It is a great fit for smaller living rooms, cabins and home offices. Heavy cast iron absorbs heat and releases it slowly, so the room stays comfortable long after the fire dies down. For the best results, burn only dry, well-seasoned firewood; the Cord Wood Best Practices guide in the documents section explains how.

It is rated at up to 37,000 BTUs and heats about 600 to 1,800 sq. ft. Load 14-inch logs into the 1.3 cu. ft. firebox and expect up to 8 hours of steady warmth from a single load. Thanks to FlexBurn, you can run it non-catalytic or fit the optional Catalytic Performance Pack later. With the catalyst installed, low-burn efficiency improves by up to 15% and emissions drop to about 0.3 g/hr. Matching accessories such as warming shelves, a cast iron steamer, a trivet and a safety screen are sold separately.

Key Features

Classic Black Finish: Understated satin black that suits any setting

Transition Doors: Contemporary door styling on a classic cast iron stove

Top Loading: Add wood from the top while smoke and embers stay inside the stove

Swing-Out Ash Pan: Empty ashes cleanly, even while the stove is hot

Thermostatic Air Control: Automatically adjusts combustion air for longer, more even heat

Cast Iron Griddle Top: Warm a kettle or cook simple meals right on the stove

Reversible Flue Collar: Vent from the top or the rear to suit your room

FlexBurn Ready: Optional Catalytic Performance Pack adds up to 15% low-burn efficiency

What's Included

Vermont Castings Intrepid cast iron wood stove (Classic Black)

Transition doors

Cast iron griddle top

Swing-out ash pan with handled cover

Reversible flue collar (top or rear vent)

Specifications
<table style="border-collapse: collapse;
